The world leader in high tech - Denmark?

It may seem unexpected, but Denmark have emerged as the world leader in high tech, according to The World Economic Forum. They're followed by Sweden, Singapore, Finland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the US, Iceland, the UK and Norway.  Not only are the UK lagging behind our European counterparts, but the US has made a dramatic slide from top dog to back of the pack This is attributable more to growing innovation and infrastructure in Europe than any laggardness in the US as such. Or at least so sat they.

I'm not sure if they did neon in the days of the Wild West. I'm also not sure if they did soft foam darts. But is there was some kind of training school for ne'er do wells, this is certainly the kind of equipment they'd use.

It's so realistic that a shell is deposited out of the gun after each shot, and it's double barreled so you can shoot dart after dart in quick succession. The only thing you have to do is try and get people to take your neon gun seriously, but a couple of accurately fired bullets should take care of that...

There are many reasons why it's difficult to get up in the morning. The clocks have just gone back, which makes it lighter later in the mornings, which is currently my main excuse.

And there are now many ways to ensure you get up in the morning. If you don't fancy being shocked out of bed (it's a niche desire, admittedly) then this might be more up your street.

It'll wake you up with a good dose of disco music, as well as a light display, reminiscent of the cheesiest 70s disco. And who wants to stay in bed when there's a disco to be had?

Did you notice anything funny today? Yes? You too?

You couldn't fail to notice, as you walked past shopping areas, that today, there were an awful lot of shops who still had stock of the PS3. Sony are claiming that this is because they managed the supply chain so well, but it's difficult to not attribute it to the £400 and something price tag.

One thing's for sure - you wouldn't want to be the guy in line at the Virgin Megastores launch who was vowing to buy 10 of them in order to resell them on eBay. Because what's worse than having 10 PS3s to flog? Having 10 second hand PS3s to flog.

Ouch.

Aaaaaahhhhhh - it's a spiiiideeeeer

Personally, I don't have much of a problem with spiders, as long as they're being sensible and not crawling over my face. I find the glass/piece of junk mail/throw it our of the door trick perfectly satisfactory for removing them as well. Or I did, until I saw this.

It's a nice colour, and it looks like fun. In fact, I'm pretty sure if I owned it, I'd go *looking* for spiders. No, I'd probably set up a whole spider catching business, just to make sure I got ample use of it. Mind you, it only costs £12.99 - you'd only have to catch a couple of spiders to make it worth it!

Tonight's the night

Tonight is the night that the PS3 finally launches in the UK. Virgin Megastores on Oxford Street are holding the official midnight launch, much to the delight of the police, who have identified midnight launches as a danger to the public, due to the increased risk of mugging. Nice.

It's been blighted by criticism, ranging from the delayed launch date to the poor support of PS2 games. And as of 10 o'clock this morning, there were only 3 people queuing at the shop - a bit of a damp squib compared to what was expected. No doubt it will sell out however, and chances are it will be a success, but the questions on everyone's lips is 'will it beat the Wii?'. We'll just have to wait and see.

Get rich quick (almost, kinda, ish) guaranteed

Alright, so we probably can't guarantee you untold riches, but we can probably promise a proper trawl down the back of your sofa. Who knows, it might be enough for a bag of chips?

And if you need more to convince you than a couple of quid in coppers? Think of how quite it'll keep the kids when you bury a pound coin somewhere on the beach and leave them to find it. It's better than building a sandcastle.

Googlephone in the offing?

Us internet-dwellers love nothing more than a good rumour. The less substantiated the better, in my experience.

This Googlephone is the perfect rumour - there are a few sketchy photos, all suggesting a different form factor, a few different suspected partners, none of whom will confirm or deny, and then there's the debate as to whether Google would actually benefit from moving into the mobile phone business - a notoriously tough industry to conquer.

So far, some poor Google employee in Spain seems to have let slip that there may be a phone in the  future. The rumour is that it's going to be designed to work much like a Blackberry, but excel in Google's own personal specialism, mainly the internet. This has many people feeling skeptical, since many handset manufacturers currently have deals with Google to ship their products preloaded with Google goodies. There's also the argument that Google is well known for encouraging their engineers and developers to experiment, and this could be one of the many projects which will never see the light of day.
