USB old skool radio

This radio mic is so old skool it harks back to an era before anyone thought it would be a good idea to refer to things as 'old skool'. Now, that's old.

As well as looking not out of place in a 40's radio station, it allows you to listen to FM and AM radio simply by plugging it into your USB port on your computer. No batteries are needed (which is a particular bonus to me, as I've been swapping batteries from remote to mouse to keyboard to camera all afternoon). UK cheapest place to buy gadgets (in Europe)

I spend a lot of time moping about the fact that I don't live in the US, therefore don't get the discounts on gadgets that I feel by rights I should. But, it seems my whinging is not appreciated. In fact,  a new survey has found when it comes to buying gadgets, the UK is the cheapest place in Europe.

The research, undertaken by comparison site Pricerunner, checked the prices of a number of electrical items, including a silver Sony CyberShot DSC-T9 camera, an Acer Aspire 3004WLMi, Microsoft Xbox 360 Core System and a 40-inch Samsung LE-40M51B. Prices were checked in 21 European cities. Brits are able to buy all the kit for £2,529.81, compared to £3,464.13 (28% more) for the same items in Norway and 26% more than in Lithuania at £3,425.99.

Who knew we were getting a good consumer deal over this side of the pond (apart from us here at BB-shopping who always strive to provide you with the best prices ever in the whole world).

Some people love smileys and some people hate them. Personally, I used to hate them, but ever since I saw them on Skype, I've started to love them a little bit more. Particularly the one which looks like there's a little man being sick - perfect for when you're hungover.

Christmas stocking filler: Breathaliser

It may not be the sexiest of all the gadgets out there.  But it is a bloody good idea, what with Christmas shenanigans being in full s swing as we speak. And just think of the gratitude the receiver will feel when they don't get arrested for drink driving. It will be immense. Trust me.

So, for the subtler types, stocking fillers are the way to go. Google launch education offensive

Get 'em young. That's the adage Google seem to be living by, with the launch of their education package, which is supposed to 'just help teachers engage kids with technology that makes learning seem less like drudgery'. It is basically a package of all the things Google already produce, such as their online spreadsheets and word processing packages. These are all stored on Google's central server - something which has brought up some worrying privacy issues with certain people.

In a less cynical move, Google doesn't allow advertising on any of these programmes. So how exactly does Google expect to make money? Or is this just an exercises in brand loyalty? Or, shock, horror, are they actually trying to help?

Free phone calls without the wires

The thing about Skype up until recently, has been the fact that you've been tethered to your computer. For the calls to be transmitted over your broadband connection, there's had to be that all important broadband connection, see.
